Aviassist made the decision early to suspend operations until such time as the welfare of our staff and guests could be assured. We felt this decision was corporately responsible and since then we have seen large scale government and workplace restrictions.
Continuing in-person training on the way into the COVID19 outbreak would be akin to concentrating on a map of the ground while flying into a thunderstorm
- Ross Anderson, Managing Director Aviassist
While in-person training operations were suspended, Aviassist launched “Online Live” a method of conducting the theory component of the Remote Pilot Licence face to face in a virtual classroom. We have been trialling “Online Live” for twelve months and have created a learning environment with an 80%-90% commonality with being in person.
Aviassist has the quality of training as a primary focus and “Online Live” is exactly as it sounds. One of Aviassist’s professional instructors leading and delivering the course content face to face in a virtual classroom. Class sizes are limited to ten to ensure an interactive environment.
Online live is scheduled over three days, running six hours per day. The day features plenty of breaks, break out rooms and informal discussion. Online live theory sessions have been scheduled every week up until the end of May and will remain available long-term in this format. Online live is the perfect solution for those requiring fast-tracking of their Remote Pilot Licence, companies with workplace restrictions and those that need to travel to attend courses.
This system also allows a safe and structured return to in-person practical training.
Resumption of in-person drone training
The practical training component, of course, requires an in-person presence. The return to in-person drone training will be staged on a state per state basis, starting with our home base locations. The dates are conservative to avoid cancellations, with reviews being conducted weekly to bring forward course dates where it is responsible to do so.

It is hopeful that in-person Remote Pilot Licence training will resume earlier than the above-mentioned dates, with expected government announcements in the coming weeks. The Aviassist team is committed to client success and is working hard to facilitate a safe return to training activities.
